Deviation Road 'Beltana' 2015 Blanc de Blanc

The Fizz

The crème de la crème from Deviation Road's sparkling wine range. Served in Australia's finest restaurants (enjoyed recently by yours truly at Neil Perry's Margaret in Double Bay, Sydney). The 2014 vintage took out 'Sparkling Wine of the Year' at the Halliday Wine Companion awards in 2021, so you know this isn't a wine that messes about.

Single-site chardonnay from the highest vineyard in Piccadilly Valley - favoured for its cold-climate to ensure premium fruit from even ripening. Fruit deep within the canopy is selected, which retain the natural crisp acidity and freshness needed for a prestige blanc de blanc.

Made in reductive style (no oak) with full malolactic fermentation to soften the bright acidity, then tiraged until recent batch disgorgement, giving almost seven years on lees with only a tiny amount of dosage made from reserve wines. The final product produces wafts of baked pastry, ensued quickly by baked lemon pie, zingy green apple and brioche, with a long-lasting, mouthwatering finish.

A prestige, late disgorged release that would pair neatly with beluga caviar, Pacific oysters, or whole lobster. The last of this release before a new vintage, so it's here for a good time, not a long time.

Find us a champagne that gives you every bit of sheer austerity, elegance and superiority that the Beltana does for the same price... we'll be waiting.
