Ngeringa 2021 Pétillant Naturel
The Fizz
Based in Mount Barker Summit, sitting at a pretty 330-420 metres altitude, Ngeringa owners Erinn and Janet Klein hold 75 ha of biodynamic farmland, with just 5 ha of vines dedicated to producing fine, natural wines.
This pét nat comes from a blend of syrah and pinot noir, fermented in oak and concrete egg fermenters, and viognier and pink semillon, fermented on skins for 7-10 days then pressed into oak.
2021 is hailed as an almighty vintage for the Adelaide Hills region. After the devastation of bushfires in 2020, 2021 brought steady winter rainfall, a milder summer that allowed for a prolonged ripening season and a generous crop - everything boutique sparkling winemakers could ask for.
The Ngeringa pét nat rosé brings refined bubbles with lovely citrus, floral notes to the forefront without the overt 'funk' that some versions bring. Delicious sour cherry from the syrah and pinot, grapefruit and tangerine from the viognier and pink semillon, and a hint of cider on the palate. A real people pleaser that'll convert even the sparkling wine purists!
