Chalmers 2018 Lambrusco
The Fizz
Cheap, fizzy soda-like red wine that tastes from a flask - are you like our parents and think this when you hear 'lambrusco'? Keep reading.
Chalmers brings us Lambrusco maestri: Born in Emilia-Romagna and emigrated to Australia, like its Italian compatriots, looking for a better, more prosperous future in 2001.
Of all the lambrusco grape varieties (of which there are eight), lambrusco maestri gives the fruitiest, creamiest, deepest and most complex flavours. It's no wonder we fell in love at first sip when we tried it - ripe black cherry, dark plums, milk chocolate and candied violets. Traditional method principles ensure fermentation to dryness with minimal dosage added, giving a wonderfully dry, intensely flavoured lambrusco.
As Italian wine expert, Ian D'Agata, describes it, the Chalmers Lambrusco is "an excellent wine, atypically made by the traditional Champagne method...you'll love the heady vanilla, cinnamon and strawberry aromas and flavours that seem to jump out of the glass".
For the sparkling shiraz fanatics, this is for you, except without the heavy tannins! Crack this open on your Christmas Day Lunch, and tell us that we've changed your mind forever x
