Deviation Road 'Altair' MV Rosé
The Fizz
Multi-vintage rosé winder made from predominantly 2020-base Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley fruit - prime sparkling grape-growing areas within the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills.
Blend of pinot noir for bright strawberry and cherry flavours, chardonnay for lean acidity, citrusy and stone fruit notes, and slight pinot meunier for delicate floral aromas. The vibrant rose pink colour is donated from the addition of a touch of still pinot noir. Malolactic fermentation softens the acidity to give a creamy, supple mouthfeel, and the 17% reserve wine making up the blend add depth and complexity.
This new release has had over 24 months lees contact (twice the minimum requirement for a French non-vintage), made with the same fruit and same methods (without red wine addition) as the 'Loftia' vintage cuvée.
As for the price, well, for a wine made with such technical precision and lees contact duration, Kate Laurie (Deviation Road) reckons, "it's a steal". We're inclined to agree.
Enough said.
